Going cold turkey off Coke - what are the symptoms?
I usually drink as much as 1 to 2 litres of coke per day. I ran out of money and havent had any coke since friday afternoon. Its now 1 am on monday morning & I cant sleep. I have had a headache for most of sunday. Can one get a headache from going "cold turkey" when the coke stops flowing? If yes, when will it stop? I dont get more money until Tuesday. I dont want to switch to diet coke because the stories about aspartame are horrendous.
Answers:
yes the lack of caffeine can give you a headache.
Reducing caffeine too quickly can cause a quite dramatic drop in blood pressure, due to the body becoming over-sensitive to adenosine, and this can cause more blood to gather in the head producing a migraine-like headache.
i dont know how long it will last maybe you should take a tylenol and try to go to sleep.
yes...you most probably will...its the caffeine
Soft drinks such as Coke have caffeine in them. Caffeine is a legal drug and is addictive. People who drink caffeinated beverages such as coffee, tea, and soft drinks e get withdrawal symptoms from them. Headaches are the main symptom and a drink of something with caffeine will probably ease the headache.
Also, the caffeine in those beverages are hard on your kidneys. The sugar of course is not good.
I was so addicted to a soft drink that was packed with sugar and caffeine that I drank about 4 a day and put on the weight f-a-s-t. BEWARE!!!
If you get past the coke withdrawal symptoms, maybe you can change to drinking juice or flavored bottled water.
Yes, headache is the most common symptom of caffine withdrawl. Take some aspirin and coffee or tea would help.
It's not the coke that you're suffering withdrawals from. It's the caffeine. Therefore, switching to diet coke won't help you anyway.
There really isn't much you can do, other than taking aspirin. You could try drinking it again then tapering off slowly, which would cut down on the headache.
Symptoms of quitting Coca-cola are:
Weight loss
Better health
and fewer mood swings.
If you're getting headaches, it's from the lack of caffeine...try some coffee, it's much healthier than coca-cola (it even has more anti-oxidants than Green tea).
Caffeine withdrawal almost always involves moderate to severe headache, nervousness/sleeplessness, pretty much everything you report. Overconsumption of caffeine drinks has been linked to health problems such as cirrhosis of the liver. Drinking 1-2 litres of Coke daily is a serious addiction, and also involves consumption of a huge amount of empty calories from the sugar content, which can also lead to diabetes and obesity. There are NO health benefits to drinking Coke. Please consider permanently reducing or eliminating Coke from your diet, for the sake of your health.
the headaches are probably from the withdrawl of caffine, It should stop, if it goes for more than two weeks i think its safe to say you need to see a doctor.learn to like water or at least something without caffine. that would be the best way to go.
When you're addicted to something and you don't have it your brains normally send psychological signals to you. like in what you're experiencing. Cigarettes, alcohol, caffeine, sugar and carbs they all have tendencies to make our bodies feel addicted.
My best recommendation is since you're going cold turkey, why don't you go cold turkey all the way. Stop drinking the fizzy, sugared and artificially flavored beverage. After a week you'll be back to normal. Then reintroduce yourself to something. Water. Cold water, you'll be surprised how pure and refreshing it taste.
If need be, once in a while spoil yourself with some juice.
fish
Oh no u better start to stop your addiction towards Coke. Or else, you might get diabetes sooner or later.
What I say is true, i know of a guy who end up getting diabete after drinking such sweet drinks everyday.
You should drink more mineral water instead.
Getting a headache is a symptoms of illness which may would have occur.
Start changing your habits, you can drink fruit juice, or even tea.
So good luck!
I quit drinking coke a few months ago. I usually drank the same amount as you. Probably closer to 1.5-2 liters/day. I actually didn't notice any effects other than a craving for the sweetness. I take care of that by drinking a small juice once in a while, or eating fruit.
That said, your symptoms sound pretty normal for caffeine withdrawal. It should start getting better within the next day or so. It shouldn't last more than a few days, a week at most, and you're pretty much through the worst of it.
Do consider taking this chance to stop drinking sodas all together. Diet or regular they are all not good for you.
