Have a question for all of the Barista's out there?!

Question:

Have a question for all of the Barista's out there?

Hi all baristas. I have a question, I am very interested in becoming employed as a barista..but I am worried about something.. Are you allowed to use milk and coffee and such to practice with after the initial training? Or does your company consider that wasteful and not a thing to do. Because when it comes to things like latte art I want to be good, and I know you cant get those really proffesional buisness like machines at home, someone told me they steam better. So I hope someone can help me out here. I just dont want to be worried about using up all their milk or something. Thank you so much.

Answers:
I have a small cappuccino catering company called Cappuccino Express Mobile Beverage Bars in Dallas, TX and I encourage my new baristas to play with the equipment and drinks. I don't encourage waste, however I do encourage learning and experimenting. My baristas also keep their borrowed Cappuccino Express equipment in their homes and are allowed personal use of the equipment.

Once you have the espresso shot perfected, and the milk steaming down where you have the right amount of froth for toppings, the rest is mostly flavor mixing and often that is to the customer's taste.
