Answers:
It absorbs toxins from the plastic of the bottle over a period of time, unlikely to harm you in such small quantities but toxins all the same.
Bottled water is a complete rip off, so by encouraging you throw it away they sell more.
Because it's not 100% pure HO2, so it can go bad. And if it's carbonated, it can also just go flat.
So dust can't settle on the bottles?...
So you will drink it faster and buy more?

There are likely to be minerals etc in the water that will 'go off' over time.
E.g. try leaving a glass of water out for a couple of days and taste it - it tastes kind of dusty.
the plastic containters contaminate the water over time.
aparently it has more to do with the plastic that the bottles are made from contaminating the water than it does with the actual water itsself.
its eu standard that anything that is edible or drinkable to have a sell by date. also water takes on the taste of the plastic bottle not harmful but not nice

Simple because it can grow mildew inside the bottle. I'm from Louisiana and after Hurricane Rita and Katrina we got lots of cans of water and bottles, and over time they got this nasty mildew smell and a funny taste.
Because all companies have to mark theri product with a best before date so they just make one up!
For the same reason as usual! So that you have to buy more if you go past the date. The supermarkets loved it when the date regulations were adopted. Everything has a "best before" date, even things that will last longer than us.

Hello. I work for Coke. One reason is to simply promote rotation by stores, so you don't get a bottle of water that was made years ago.
I was actually at a Wal Mart today that was shutting down because they are opening a bigger one. Well Pepsi and Coke cleared out their vending machines outside and both companies had water with 2003 expiration dates on it! I cracked one open and it tasted fine. I don't buy into the water expiring thing.
