How can bottled water go bad? My bottle says "best before Oct-25-2008"?

"According to the labels, you have one or two years to drink up. In fact, NBC 5 found bottles of water on local shelves that expire this year, next year and in 2006.
However, even bottling companies like Dr Pepper, which bottles "Deja Blue," admit that expiration dates mean absolutely nothing to you.
"It's not like a sweetened product or an artificially sweetened product that has certain characteristics that would degrade over time," Derry Hobson, of the Dr Pepper Bottling Group, said. "Water does not degrade."
Hobson also said the numbers on its bottles are not an "expiration" date, but simply an internal "production" date."
What is even worse -- our Director of Operations actually THREW AWAY gallons and gallons of the stuff that had "expired" rather than allowing employees to take it home for things like watering plants, etc.!! Litigation-consciousness strikes again!!

It becomes stale ... they just want to make sure you do not hold it for a long time and then try to sue them ...
ummmm... it doesnt go bad. that date just means how long the store can be carrying the water. thats all
it doesnt that just so you know when the freshest date is, after that then its just still good ole fashioned water.
all water can go bad if kept stagnant (unused). bacteria can still form.
some companies put that because the bottles can actually degrade over time. never freeze or heat those bottles.
It s held in bottles that have chemicals in them maybe thats why specially plastic would seem bad sitting in plastic for years
there may be an additive in the water. Depends on what type of water it is
I just received my shipment of Music Mtn and it already has a funky smell to it. The best before date is just another add on to charge the consumer more money for yet again nothing but profit to the company.
