I still call them Opal fruits and Marathons
Because they are DINGS!!!
Starburst and Snickers are more marketable, catchy names that people will remember. Also, "opal fruits" is kind of outdated and not very trendy!
i bought a dime bar earlier and they're now called daim. i still call starburst opal fruits
Marketability. They wouldn't be top sellers with the original names.
Because that's what they are called in America and we had to change to bring things in line with them. Pathetic.
I did some work on an american air base about 22 years ago - their tuck shop sold snickers then, and yes they were still marathons underneath.
So I guess it is yet another thing where the Americans influenced the UK, if the manufacturers only need to print one label instead of two, it will be cheaper, and it looks like we had to change yet again.
I don't know about starbursts but snickers were so named because the UK was the only country that called them marathons. we had a whole ad campaign when it changed of people going into shops in france etc and asking for a marathon and getting blank looks.
LOL, I guess that Starburst and Snickers are better names. Atleast I think so.
why have you still got your nose!i don't really like ether i like munchies and i don't know why they change names i think with the snickers it was because our American cousins already used that name but i maybe wrong
Yes, what was the point, 'Jif' became 'Cif', 'Oil of Ulay' became 'Oil of Olay'. Memories!.
I always wondered that...I think it was because it other countries they were know are starburst and snickers. It’s a shame that they changed the names, because I don't know if you remember the TV advert for marathon, because it was due to that advert that I and lots of my friends learnt how to spell marathon
