Why isn't pineapple juice bottled?!

Question:

Why isn't pineapple juice bottled?

We were having a discussion at lunch, a co-worker says they only can or put the juice in cartons, but no bottles. What's up with that?

Answers:
To the previous responder...what do you mean pineapples are not grown in the US? Haven't you heard of a little US state called Hawaii? The Dole Pineapple plantations are there. However, that still involves shipping over water, so you are probably right about the glass bottles although I think it would be due more to the weight of the glass than breakage issues.

Pineapples are not grown in the US and so juice is canned or frozen in the country of origin and then the frozen is reconstituted for boxed juices or to blend with other juices. It is too risky to ship glass bottles from overseas.

It is possible to bottle pineapple juice, its just an expensive process. Check a local organic store or section- it will be slighlty spendy compared to regular bottled juice but i think its worth it!
