Which is better: sports drinks or water during a competitive event or training?!

Question:

Which is better: sports drinks or water during a competitive event or training?

Answers:
You definately want to drink a sports drink. When you sweat you lose more than water. You lose electrolytes that need to be replaced. If you drink just water you can get water toxicity, which can actually kill you. Doesn't happen that often and you have to drink a lot of water to do that.
A drink with electrolytes will definately help you more than just plain water. Much healthier when you are sweating a lot.

PROPEL is flavored water type sports drink it gives you a lot of energy and keeps you hydrated, even for the roughest sports or events

Water water water. Unless you are running a marathon sports drinks are not as good. DRINK WATER!!!

Glucose permits water to be more rapidly absorbed into tissues. In addition, electrolytes like soium and potassium can be lost during intense sweating. Sports drinks have alot of glucose and electrolytes to in the water to help facilitate rapid rehydration. While this is effective, it is most effective during INTENSE sport competition where you are sweating intensely. If you drink sports drinks during a moderate work out, the glucose may just upset your stomach, and over time, the added calories from the sugar will make you fat. So if you are professional athlete or competitor who trains extensilvely, then go with the sports drink. Otherwise, I'd stick with plain old water.

i think a combination of both will help u.water simply because ur sweating, sports drinks will give u energy and vital minerals

If the duration of the activity for an individual athlete is fairly continuous for 1 hour or longer, a sports drink is the better replacement fluid. However, if the activity lasts less than 1 hour, water is the best option. In either case, an athlete should have about 6-8 ounces of fluid replacement every 30 minutes during strenuous, continuous activity.

Whatever they give you. I personally would say sport drinks.

i'd stick with Water.
