Can water spoil?!

Question:

Can water spoil?

Answers:
No, but it can get stale. After a few years, if stored in a plastic container, it will take on a bit of the taste of the plastic. That's why you'll see an expiration date on bottled water.

No that is silly.

No, but it can become stagnant from standing for an extended amount of time.

Well, umm no i dont think water can "spoil" but if water is sitting in a place for like a couple years without moving it can become stagnant...

if you add stuff to it like chemicals or insect eggs. but water by itself does not spoil. maybe it'll just taste flat after some time.

yes it can turn bad as it will lose flavor and bacterias will grow in it, thats why when stores have water on sell i check the bottles if they squeeze real easy I dont buy them as they are old

Water doesn't spoil - but the taste can be affected. Plastic will degrade over time - sunlight makes this happen quicker. When this happens, the plastic itself can contribute to the taste of the water. Weakening plastic may also allow gasses to permeate which can also affect the taste of water.

Most bottled water carries an expiration date, so I don't think this is a silly question at all..

no i dont think soo

Pure water in an inert container cannot spoil. However very little water is completely pure, and very few containers are inert.

Bacteria growths can make water taste bad, but most of the time these are not harmful bacteria. Even teflon can support a bacteria growth.

Most waters in the USA are chlorinated. Chlorine is a powerful oxidant that can cause chemicals in the water to change into bad tasting chemicals.

I'm assuming you're referring to bottled water here, and yes, some of them can spoil. Not all bottled water is the same, some are treated, some are simply filtered. If there is an expiration date on the bottle, you should respect it.

There are several things that can happen with bottled water. The ones that are ozonated can spoil. I don't remember why, but they can. Also spring water may contain some bacteria or other contaminants that can grow over time. In small amounts they are harmless, but if you leave the water too long, it could be tainted. And lastly, the bottles themselves can break down and some of the chemicals can get into the water.

I hope that helps.

hahahaha!!.... are you seriously asking this question?

No, but it will become quite stale.
