Chai tea?..?!

Question:

Chai tea?..?

what does chai tea taste like? Is it good? The one from starbucks?

Answers:
If it's just plain Chai tea, it tastes very good. All it is is tea flavored with certain spices (usually Indian spices). I like to add a little sweetener now and then, but it also tastes good straight.

It has a strong pungent smell and taste. Actually it seems to me that it smells stronger than it tastes. I like it, did you?

It taste like Cinnamon and clove and sugar and a bit of black tea and milk. If you like those flavors you will like Chai

yeah its good, I would get it hot first and then try it cold.

Basically Chai is an India word for Tea. Therefore, chai & tea are two different receipes. Mabbe starbuck used this term for easy understanding. Western Tea is prepared by mixing all the ingredients seperately (after steeping tea leaves or tea bags in water). But in Chai the tea leaves are added along with water, milk & sugar in the pan & heated together. That's called a Chai. Its tastes much better than Tea as the real aroma of tea leaves is captured in this process.

There are lots of versions of "chai tea"... what they taste like could vary with the proportion of spices used in them, and the amount of fat in the milk used.

So basically it's a "black" tea which has milk and usually sugar added to it, plus certain spices... primarily cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, and perhaps ground ginger or others (in fact I make my own chai by just using a few shakes of ground cardamom to my steeped tea since that's the predominant flavor and it's quick).

I think it tastes wonderful (sweet and spicy, not the hot type of spicy though), but I did taste one version the other day that had a lot of clove flavor in it which was a little too clove-y for my taste.
