Would I get the same health benefits?


Answers:
Definitely avoid bottled tea and brew regular tea yourself, preferably loose-leaf.

It is a fact: bottled green tea contains much less of the healthy catechins found in green tea. The processing takes too much out of it. Plus the sugar and calories that go into it - we can forget about it.

According to the USDA study, the regular green is the healthiest:

100 millimetres of regular green tea contains 127 milligrams of catechins.

Decaffeinated brewed green tea contains only 56 milligrams, less than half of the catechins found in an original brew.

Flavored brewed green tea has 43 milligrams.

Disappointingly, instant green tea has only 12 milligrams.

A lot of the people forget that the health benefits of green tea shown by the Japanese and Chinese are based on different tea drinking habits.

They drink loose-leaf, high grade stuff that contains many times more catechins that bottled green tea, even teabags.

I tend to brew green tea, even in the office, it just take 2 minutes. Simply boil the water, let it cool a bit and pour it into your cup. Left to steep for less than 5 minutes.

Yes, but bottled green tea will usually have some form of sugar in it. Like high fructose corn syrup or something. It's better to just make fresh green tea from tea bags and drink it straight.

Celestial seasonings makes two good kinds, Blueberry green tea and lemon honey ginseng green tea. I drink those alot. I make a gallon of iced tea with them usually.

You'd get the same amount of tea, but the bottled stuff is usually a lot sweeter than you'd make your own, so you'd be getting a lot of calories from the sugar.

Possiblly however not likely. Green tea looses most of its benifits if boiled. Bottled drinks are all pasturized which is on lower heat then boiling. However it is also for longer period of time. Most commercial food losses some of its health benifits because it is proccessed so much as it has to last on the shelf.
As well you get added sweatener in bottled tea. Bottled green tea also generally has other things added to it as well including citric acid (vitamin c which is good) or phosphoric acid (the stuff in Coco-Cola) which your body really doesn't need. It is very uncommon to find 100% pure green tea in a bottle.

You will most likely still get some health benfits from drinking bottled green tea but you will most likely get a lot more from fresh loose green tea prepared properly at home.

You really have to look at the ingredients. A lot of those bottled teas will say "brewed using this or that". Some of them are actually made from concentrate, which I can't imagine is the best option. If there is a manufacturer's date, so much the better, because you'll be able to tell when it was bottled. You don't want tea that's been sitting around for a long time. But to answer your question, I think it all depends on the bottled tea, and the manufacturer.

I think if you want the most health benefits, make your own tea and put ice over it if you like it cold.

Nothing that comes in a bottle can compare to freshly steeped loose tea, brewed with good pure water.

Freshly brewed green tea is better than bottled.

Bottled often has lots of corn syrup.

Brew loose green tea in 195F water for 2 minutes for the best tasting and most healthful cup of tea.
