Making Coffee or tea?!

Question:

Making Coffee or tea?

When you make coffee or tea do you put cold water or hot water in the kettle to boil water. I have been told it is better to fill kettle with cold water. Is that true?

Answers:
People suggest putting cold water in the kettle because it is probably cleaner than the hot water in your pipes (the hot water can dislogde calcium build-ups and other impurities). As long as your hot water is fine, there is no reason why you shouldn't use it - it will heat up faster!

On the other hand, if you are using an automatic drip coffee maker, you definitely should use cold water in order for it to brew properly.

I'm a coffee fanatic, have worked at many coffee shops, and even attended "Starbucks School".

That is true

I use cold water.

I make coffee with a Gevalia machine and it says to start with a pot of fresh cold water.

I think so, if you want to know the difference then pour some cold water in a glass and compare it with hot water. I think you will see a difference. Though coffee may mask any change. Maybe not in chemical content but the hot water to me has a flat taste, I wonder if it is less oxygen in it. Anyway use cold water, and for tea you must boil the water, for green tea boil the water and allow to cool af ew degrees orthe tea will be bitter.

i prefer normal water

Cold and I am not sure why but I have always been told to start with cold water too!

Yes, you should use filtered cold water - the filter water makes it taste better. Hot water can contain bad stuff from your pipes, even lead.
