Is it detrimental to take vitamins with a hot beverage?!

Question:

Is it detrimental to take vitamins with a hot beverage?

Someone told me that you should only take vitamins with COLD drinks, as hot drinks "kill" them! I never heard that before, & it doesn't sound plausible to me. Does anyone have a true, well-founded answer for this? Thanks.

Answers: This is actually true that vitamins are killed by hot water, but not by them being a drinkable temperature even if its a hot beverage. When I worked at beverage company that made many types of energy drinks (Amp, Sobe NoFear, Monster) the reps from the companies that made the vitamins and the flavors would never want us using hot water when mixing in the vitamins. We would normally use 185-190 degree water when mixing ingredients, though they wouldn't let us use water over 110 degrees with the vitamins for the exact reason you mentioned. Hot water appearantly breaks down the molecules that hold the vitamins together. Why this would matter I don't know, but I have been told by the chemists that this is true. They wouldn't have a caution or warning label on them as mentioned in a previous answer, because it doesn't HURT you for the vitamins to break down, its just not as effective that way. They only put a warning or caution if it makes it in any way dangerous. I have never heard anything like that before. Not that I'm an expert or anything, but once you swallow the pill and cold drink, it converts to the temperature of your body anyways which isn't exactly cold. 98 degrees is pretty hot, and the vitamins are able to do their job. I think your friend passed on an old wives tale to you. NO! If this were true, there would be a "caution" or "warning" on the package label. I have never heard anything pertaining to that; but I do know vitamins work better if taken with a meal. I take mine after lunch each day when I don't half to take any of my medications. No. If anything the heat would release them into the body faster. Unless you take them with near-boiling water that is >.> Whoever told you that is a little loopy. Taking vitamins with a hot drink is fine. Well, maybe some vitamins are transformed into something else when mixed with hot water... but I think you would need boiling water to mess them up.
