Answers: Not if they clean their plastic bottles between uses just as they would other drinking containers. Plastics are by nature extremely sanitary materials, and plastic bottles are no more likely to harbor bacteria than other kinds of packaging or drinking containers. Bacteria thrive in warm, moist environments. Once bacteria have been introduced, virtually any drinking container (coffee mugs, drinking glasses, serving pitchers, etc.) becomes a suitable environment for bacterial growth.

You should clean any drinking container with hot soapy water and dry thoroughly between uses. Bottles specifically designed for extended reuse are often made with wide openings that allow consumers to use cleaning instruments and easily dry them. Source(s):
plasticsinfo.org i dont see what it would hurt. they say it is not good
to do this, who are 'they'?
anyway? why would you think its bad to refill water bottles-its awsome. its really environmentally friendly-you know, instead of buying new bottles and wasting the bottle. as long as you fill it with water and not oh say Vodka like some idiot parent did then fed to the baby with formula thinking it was water. Well....we do it all the time but we do it with that Pure drinking system. yes !!!! i heard on the news that u should use a new water bottle every day !!! Yes, it is, but not for the reasons you may 'think' ... the plastic they make for those bottles is really THIN and can break down rather rapidly for recycling ... some of the 'plastic' can be shed after the first water is out of the bottle, and that will contaminate the 'second' and future waters. But the BEST REASON not to use these bottles again is that they will BREAK when you don't want them to, at any time because they are 'weak' plastic only meant to last for the 'life' of the original water. Think about it ... do you want your school work or office work to get soaked because you are too 'cheap' to go buy a good plastic refillable bottle? They say it is bad. A news report from Chicago showed all the bacteria that is in a refilled water bottle. I refill and haven't got sick, but I do rinse them out with hot water. its perfectly fine. my brother does it all the time. It can't hurt. Reduce, re-use, recycle! Just make sure you wash it every couple of days with hot water and dish soap, especially around the lip of the bottle. This way you're not growing bacteria. The exception to this is biodegradable plastic bottles; those need to be recycled because if you keep them too long they will start to leach chemicals into your water. Yeah, I heard on the news that it was bad. Like theres no harm in doing it once or twice. I'm not completely sure but based on what the news broadcasters say there is bacteria that forms that may lead to cancer. I would just buy a water bottle and fill it up with water because most water in water bottles don't contain floride (unless you buy the ones that say they do). So yeah i hope that answered it.
