Oatmeal question?!

Question:

Oatmeal question?

since oatmeal is so high in fat should we still be eating it? How much should we eat, whats too much? Is it good for gaining weight?

Answers: Well this is what Quaker Oatmeal has to say about it.
Of course the make the oats. But I have high blood pressure and my doctor has oatmeal on my diet:)
Anyway its a good website with a whole lot of info.

Oatmeal isn't just a cholesterol-free, whole grain food… Oats contain soluble fiber that binds with and helps remove some of the cholesterol which can clog your arteries and lead to heart disease*. Help lower your cholesterol by taking the 30 day Quaker Oatmeal Smart Heart Challenge

http://www.quakeroatmeal.com/ IDk but it sure is yummy.......... Oatmeal is so good. But I would not consume more than 1 or 2 servings at a time. It is sticky because it has a lot of fat in it. However, it is very healthy (how can oats not be?). Oatmeal has been known to give people butt fungus when applied to your legs after midnight. Try to avoid doing this unless you have been directed by an adult of some sort. I hope this answers your question. I don't know where you got your nutrition info, but oatmeal has a total of 2 grams of unsaturated fat per serving. It's high in fiber, nutrients, and helps reduce cholesterol. It has far less fat than most breakfasts, even most breakfast cereal. It is a low calorie, hearty, healthy breakfast. One serving is approximately 1 cup.

I suppose anything, with the possible exception of celery, is "good" for gaining weight if you eat too much. Yes you should still be eating it.
Eat half a cup per day. How much you eat depends on your weight goals or nutritional goals. If you eat the whole carton, it's probably too much.
It could be used for gaining weight. It's a better way of gaining weight than eating, say, cake.

Can you be more specific about your goals? Oatmeal, when prepared with water, should not really have more than about three grams of fat per serving. If you make it with whole milk or put cream in it afterwards, then you'll have a much higher fat content. Oatmeal is really good for you because of its dietary fiber content, which helps lower cholesterol and also keeps one fuller longer. As far as amounts go, I would recommend sticking to the package instructions. Anything eaten in mass quantities is "good" for gaining weight, but if you want to do so in a healthy manner, you might want to consult a dietician. Monica is right on the money. I need to add that if you use the prepackaged, instant oatmeal, the fat content is higher because of all the ingredients added, and the good dietary (soluble versus insoluble) fiber content lower than the plain boxed oatmeals that you have to actually boil to cook. If you add butter, salt, sugar or any of the above the fat, sugar, sodium count goes even higher. Adding raisins can naturally sweeten and add more fiber content.
