How many cups of coffee constitute Caffeine Abuse?!

Question:

How many cups of coffee constitute Caffeine Abuse?

I once took advantage of an 'all you can drink' deal offered every morning at a local cafe, and the owner looked at me after I had four or five cups and told me, "That's caffeine abuse!", which I thought was meant as a joke, but when I looked him in the eye he was dead serious. Was I really abusing caffeine, and what would that do to me if I was?

Answers: As far as it being caffeine abuse...that really depends on your body weight and various factors.

However it IS possible to overdose on caffeine. Technically this can happen having 3-4 cups of coffee in a small period. The "overdose" is actually poisoning from caffeine, and it effects your central nervous system. I've linked some websites discussing it under the "Source" section.

Personally, I've never overdosed on caffiene, but my fiance did a few months ago (hence why I know about ODing on caffeine..thank god for google!). During 10 hours he'd drank 5 cups of coffee, 3 28 oz. energy drinks, and a 24 oz. iced espresso. We thought we'd have to take him to the hospital, but thankfully his heart stopped racing after about 2 hours. But he was lightheaded, sick to his stomach, and had random muscle twitches/spasms for days afterwards. We both cut-back on our caffeine intake after that little episode! Source(s):

http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/... you would be talking really really fast but you wouldn't realize it just like me now bye i don't know about abuse, but i think he was just mad cause you were drinking all of his coffee.... anyways, it takes 100 cups of coffee at one sitting for the caffine to kill you.
