To all (oriental) Asian chefs: do you know a recipe for authentic milk tea (A.K.A. bubble or boba tea)?!

Question:

To all (oriental) Asian chefs: do you know a recipe for authentic milk tea (A.K.A. bubble or boba tea)?

Two summers ago, I had visited Taiwan to see family and friends, and while I was there, I dined at some three-star steak restaurants (the 3-4 course meal ones). At one of them, I was offered a slice of chocolate cake and an AUTHENTICALLY made milk tea (not the stuff we get here in the U.S. at Asian chain cafes or just regular Asian cafes, which is usually made with Coffee-Mate or milk tea powders... though those are yummy, too). When I tried it, the taste was just out of this world. Therefore, I'm wondering if someone has a really delicious recipe for REAL milk tea -- from scratch? Pearls are NOT necessary (I know how to cook those).

Answers:

I personally just brew my favorite flavor of black tea (it varies depending on my mood or craving) and instead of adding milk, add half & half and honey. You might also try some of those flavored coffee creamers - I recently tried a really good one that surprised me, it was blueberry creamer. I know this doesn't get you the exact recipe you recalled, but it's a great way to experiment and find your own flavor.
