How do tea leaves go?!

Question:

How do tea leaves go?

from green leaves to the brown stuff we have in our tea bags ?

Answers:

Fresh tea leave will be select again when reaching the factory, then it will go through several processes.

Withering:
Leaves are thinly spread to dry during this process with heated air to reduce the water content. This is prepare the leave for rolling process.

Rolling:
Leaves are now twisted and rolled so that the leaf cells are broken up releasing the oils which give the tea its distinctive aroma. Rolled with machinery or by hand. Chemical changes occur with the juice from the rolled tea leaves, oxidation.

Oxidation:
This happens once the leaf membranes were broken during rolling. Oxidation causes the leaves to turn bright copper in color. This process is the main deciding factor whether we have Green, Oolong or Black tea.

Drying or Firing:
This is to dry the leave evenly and also to stop the oxidation process.

Completing this, tea leaves goes through cutter to be cut into preassigned size to be pack into tea bags.
