Someone who buys Five Alive fruit punch wants to know that the drink will taste the same this week as it has in past weeks. If one week they noticed that it tastes too much like pineapple, and then the next week, it was not as sweet, or the color was very watery instead of a nice bright orange, people would think it was bad or not made right.

Artificial colors and flavors are there so that every batch of the food or drink that they make will come out tasting and looking exactly the same as the last one. It makes up for any natural ingredients that may not be in season, or may be lacking some flavor or color even though the same amount of the ingredient was used each time.
