Is it good that I don't drink coffee to wake up?!

Question:

Is it good that I don't drink coffee to wake up?

I've had coffee a couple of times in my 18 year life span, I don't think it's anything special. I work in a law office where everyone has a cup of hot coffee at their desk, and I live in a home where we have multiple coffee makers and two addicted to caffeine parents (after years of drinking coffee). My question is this: I don't drink coffee nor do I purposely and specifically drink caffeine (it may be in a glass of soda or two but 95% of what I drink is caffeine free) to wake myself up or any other effect of caffeine. As I get ready for college, should I stay this way? Is it a good thing not to drink caffeine daily? Am I losing anything if I start drinking it daily? Granted, there are days I'm really tired and a little sluggish but like 80% of the time I run on my own energy as oppposed to a beverage of some sort.

Answers:

It is a very good thing that you have avoided falling into the caffeine trap. I have managed to avoid it most of my life, I find only now that I drink it occasionally. Too much caffeine has many adverse affects on your health, if you feel sluggish, eating a well balanced diet is far better for you than drinking caffeine.
