Why is there no high-quality hot chocolate anymore?!

Question:

Why is there no high-quality hot chocolate anymore?

I realize this isn't a weighty question, but it's something that's been bothering me. Dunkin' Donuts used to have awesome hot chocolate that you could watch them making using cream and cocoa. Then they cheapened up and went to a machine using water. Tim Horton's used to have rich creamy cocoa, now they too have started using water as their main ingredient. Most restaurants that serve high-quality coffee use a Swiss Miss packet if you order hot cocoa, and high-end coffee bars like Starbucks and the Barnes and Noble cafes make the hot chocolate by pouring Hershey's syrup into steamed milk, which is as thin as water and absolutely disgusting.

Again, I realize this isn't earth-shaking. But I'm tired of the beverage discrimination! Those who drink coffee and tea have a million high-quality choices, but those of us who prefer hot chocolate as our hot beverage of choice are more or less completely ignored. Any thoughts on this?

Answers:

I agree with you. I used to love drinking hot cocca until places started watering them down.
