How come the carbonation in a liter of soda does not last long after it has been opened?!

Question:

How come the carbonation in a liter of soda does not last long after it has been opened?

Answers:

Naturally, the gasses inside the bottle are looking for a way to find an area of lower concentration.

Over time, the gasses inside the bottle slowly fuse out and into the atmosphere, therefore creating a less dense atmosphere inside the bottle.

Simple biology.
