Why is Dr. Pepper so misunderstood?

No-one has any idea what it is, or for that matter, WHY its is.
Its tastes great, yet at the same time has a slightly nasty taste. But everyone loves it (and hates it at the same time).
Thus, due to the fact that no-one knows whether they truly like it or not, it is so misunderstood.
