Just lipton tea...like orange/pekoe tea I've been drinking iced tea my entire life. 49 years to be exact. I've been told by many that I make the best ice tea that they have ever had so I do feel qualified to answer this question. First of all...are you making a full gallon with a gallon sized tea bag or less than a gallon? Because if you are making less it will taste very strong. Lipton makes family sized tea bags, if you use two of them, they will make a gallon. That's what I have always used. Also, the longer you brew the tea the stronger it will taste. Also the longer you let it sit and seep after you turn the heat off of it...the stronger it will taste. Best thing to do...bring tea bags to just a boil and turn off. Let sit until it barely cools, and no longer. That should give you a good gallon of tea. Another one of my ingredients that makes my tea so good is sugar, lots of sugar. There is just something about good, sweet tea that is so refreshing. Good luck! Hope it works out for you. Source(s):
Tea drinker for my entire life! Drink tea everyday of my life... The bitterness is from the length of your brew time. Don't let it sit in the water any longer than you have to. Take it out of the water as soon as the tea is the color you want. Depends on what kind of tea you are making.
If you make green tea and you are getting the bitter taste adjust the water temperature to be 190F. Also jsut steep the teabag for 3 to 4 minutes depending on the tea type.
If you are making black tea, again depends on the type of tea being used. Also avoid squeezing the bag when you are taking it out, smany times the tea gets bruise and releases more acidity than the necesary, just drained till all the water scapes.
What type of tea are you brewing?

www.mygalatea.com make sun tea let it sit in the sun in a clear container for 2-3 hours and DON'T squeeze the water out of the tea bag Don't start with boiling water, start with water that is not quite boiling. And dont' squeeze the tea bag. Don't boil it! People make the mistake of boiling the tea bag.
The trick is to bring the water to a boil add the tea bags and remove from the heat. Let them steep a few minutes.
Add your sweetener to a small amount of water...just enough to mix then fill your pitcher halfway full of ice, then fill with tea and top off with water. This method when done properly will eliminate that bitter taste!
