My wife is an avid coffee drinker, we are tired of the Gevalia scam, who has the best coffee?!

Question:

My wife is an avid coffee drinker, we are tired of the Gevalia scam, who has the best coffee?

We love Gevalia blends but we are tired of the member hassles and not interested in Boca Java member hassles either. Bottom Line... Who makes the worlds best coffee?

Answers: You're in good company. I LOVE coffee, and in fact I'm getting Gevalia now (again) but about to suspend the membership (again).

I can second what's been said about Seattle Mountain and Starbucks, but they're very overpriced. Maxwell House Master Blend is every bit as good as Gevalia's "signature" blend.

There's a local coffee here (St. Louis area), though, that has them all beat by a mile. It's called Thomas Coffee. Everybody I've served it to raves about it, and one of the local talk radio shows regularly gives it away as prizes for call-in games ... and their switchboard lights up. Believe me, this stuff is good. Well worth a try. I checked before I answered this to see if they had a web site, and naturally they do! (Below) But depending on where you live, you might find it in a grocery store. Source(s):
http://www.thomascoffee.com/ COSTCO!!! Get the beans and grind them just before brewing. A Capresso coffee maker will do this for you. Makes the best coffee ever. Starbucks but if you cant afford it all the time just buy what you can do Costa Rican cofee is pretty good.. Costco Seattle Mountain French Roast.
So good and were I live its only $8 for 2.5 pounds. I use ether Starbucks or Sam's Club coffee. I also like my coffee maker. It's a Cuisinart grind and brew. I just like fresh ground coffee. Buy pure Hawaiian Kona Coffee. It's the best stuff in the world! It's kinda pricey.. but it's worth every penny. Green Mountain out of Vermont has some very good quality coffees. Folgers, the one for dark coffee is still the best. After years of trying many kinds of coffee, my family and I all keep going back to Folgers. Let me know if you like it, and they have flavored ones now you can make, that are sooo yummmy. Think I will make a cup now. God bless ya. I never tried that stuff you talked about ,but heard it advertised. After hearing what you said, Glad I never got into it. Membership??? NO thanks. I don't drink coffee myself ,but here in Tennessee the most popular coffee is JFG Maxwell House,,master blend..My fav.. I like Dunkin Donuts and Folgers myself. Bean's from Ethiopia taste best, fresh ground coffee from the super market is good, on a budget ? Try "Cafe Caribe" (Latino coffee) Espresso, about $2.50 for a 13 oz. block, tastes pretty good, a dark roast, with heavy coffee flavor. Use cold fresh water, keep the coffee maker extremely clean. Filtered water tastes best, occasionally clean pot with fresh lemon juice. Luzianne coffee with chicory!
It takes less than 1/3 c. to make 10 cups of incredibly rich and robust coffee. This stuff is sooooooo good and cheap!
I order the regular coffee and decaf coffee by the case. I mix a pkg of each in a container.
This is sooo good! When my husband was deployed, he said that what he missed next to me was the coffee.
And, Luzianne is a great corporate citizen. They continued to pay their employees at full salary during Hurricane Katrina. Torrie makes the world's best coffee.

I am an avid coffee drinker too, and can't start the day without that first cup. But I appreciate good coffee. I tried various brands and got tired of drinking bad coffee, but I couldn't find anything else. I would put 3 spoons of sugar to kill the taste of burned coffee. After I searched the internet, I found this company in Toronto (Canada) selling a brand called Torrie. I also found that they mostly sell to high-end restaurants. The thing I like about them is that when I called them and explained what I like in a coffee, they were able to recommend a specific type of coffee to my taste. Now they supply me with their coffee on a regular basis and I drink it without sugar again. I love it!

If you want their contact information , please let me know.

Thanks I buy my coffee at the grocery store or at natural food stores. They must be whole beans, and they must be organic, and preferably a company that practices fair trade. I often buy Kona dark roast organic http://www.konacoffee.com/

Here is a list of other fair trade coffee companies http://www.globalexchange.org/campaigns/... It has been my experience, that the quality of coffee is not as important as how fresh the coffee is and how it is brewed.

And as everybody has different taste, what I find to be the best coffee won't win the approval of the next guy.

But, as far as freshness is concerned, coffee is a sweet beverage, but becomes bitter within two days of it's harvest. We do not live in Costa Rica. So, we never see fresh coffee. The closest to "fresh" that we could get it to obtain raw (known as "green") coffee beans and roast them in a peanut roaster. (home coffee roasters are hard to find and differ very little from a peanut roaster).

As far as means of brewing are concerned, Starbucks gets it's unique flavor by using a particular model of Bunn that brews very fast and at near boiling temperatures. But, comercial units are quite expensive and some run on 440 volt 3 phase power. Very few home machines can duplicate the flavor, but I have luck with two models of DeLongi and one Giggio. I do not recall the model numbers though.

Other methods of brewing are vast. Each method has it's own flavor. A great deal of experimentation is needed to find what method would creat the desired result.

As roasting coffe is an art, I would recomend reflecting back on what companies create blends that you have enjoyed in the past and using the web to find a way to get it shipped to you straight out of the factory.

Avoid canned, freeze dried and pre-ground coffees. And remember that everyone will recomend a different brand (just as if you asked for a good wine)
