Chugging a 2liter bottle of Mountain Dew..?!

Question:

Chugging a 2liter bottle of Mountain Dew..?

Is this harmful to my body in anyway? is there an actual chemical in Mountain Dew that reduces sperm count?

Answers: Chugging a 2 Liter is harmful for 4 main reasons:

1. Mountain Dew contains a lot of caffiene. While this is not enough to cause an overdose, it is enough to cause nausea. Caffiene can also increase the risk of "heartburn"... not to mention that caffiene is a diuretic, so be prepared to pee a lot.

2. Mountain Dew (and all other carbonated sodas) is acidic. That much acid can cause severe heartburn. ( I suffer from chronic acid problems and my doctor has cautioned me to watch my soft drink intake.) The acid used in some soft drinks can actually clean your toilet's porcelain when the soda is left overnight in the toilet.

3. The amount of sugar you would be injesting at one time would be very high. I hope you aren't a diabetic if you try this stunt.

4. The carbonation will cause pain until you have burped it all out. For a two-liter drink, it would take several minutes to burp out all the carbonation, so you would probably be in pain for several minutes.

As far as the sperm count goes, I have seen no scientific evidence to support the theory that Yellow Number 5 shrinks your testicles or lowers your sperm count. This may be true, but I don't think you would be able to damage your self in one sitting, even if you did chug a two liter.

My wife is pregnant with our second child (so apparantly, my testicles work just fine) and I have drunk hundreds, if not thousands, of Mountain Dews.

However, Tartrazine (FD&C Yellow Number 5) has been known to cause hives, sewlling, asthma, skin rashes, and other ailments in some people. http://allergies.about.com/od/specifceli...
