Expired Coke...Were they right?!

Question:

Expired Coke...Were they right?

In my school's football game, my friend and I both got a coke. We walked around and I noticed it expired the 11 of June, 2007. We went to get it changed and the lady said."It is OK...we just got them...anyways...they expire 60 days after that day." I didnt believe it for a second. They wouldnt change our sodas or give our money back. I am going to go and talk with a teacher and maybe and administrator. Were they right or am I right?

Answers: First of all, was it a can or a bottle?

Cans of regular soda will stay good for quite awhile after the date on them.

Bottles aren't sealed as well as cans and over time, the carbonation will escape. Bottles of soda will usually be flat a few weeks after the date on them.

Either way, expired soda won't kill you, Coke puts those dates on their products so that their customers will be getting them when the quality is the highest. Source(s):
worked for coke they are wrong!!!! THEY HAVE NO RIGHT TO SAY THAT..... i spent 6 months in antarctica in 05 we where drinking coke there that was 3 years old it was fine. usda says everything must have a expararion date thats why its there. Well, the expiration date on coke, as with most expiration dates, are a guide. If you drink one that's few weeks expired, it wont harm you or anything. It certainly won't taste as good as a fresh or unexpired coke, but it's not harmful. It's just like expired milk or juice. If it doesn't smell spoiled, chances are you wont get sick from it. Of course, try telling that to certain people who refuses to drink expired milk and they'll tell you something else.

The part about how they expire 60 days after that day is probably made up, though. Were they regular cokes or diet?? A regular one was probably still okay, however if you as a customer wanted a new coke due to the expired date...that request should have been honored. In most cases the date is a sell by date and things usually remain okay for about a week after that date...not 60 days. Now a diet coke does go bad...the NutraSweet in them turns bitter and taste really, really bad when they expire and it does not take long for this to happen after the expiration date.
Once again, due to the expiration date on the coke, I personally think that the lady should have given you another coke or your money back, she took advantage of you. I wouldn't worry about it. I've had a lot of expired soda. A friend of mine gets it from companies when it's past the date for free, because they give it out to the needy in our community. It's fine for you. If it's really old, I'm talking a year or more, then it starts to lose carbonation and doesn't taste amazing. But that couple of months is nothing. If i'm not mistaken the date on soda is a "best before" date and there is no mention of expiry. The lady selling the soda is wrong.
Soda breaks down with age (especially diet soda) and a chemical process takes place that your soda vendor wouldn't know about. If she was so aware of the chemical process she'd be teaching chemistry instead of selling sodas.
Assuming you paid full price for the soda , you are buying second-rate goods at full price and that's not fair. It won't hurt you. And it probably tastes the same, and is likely still effective as a rust remover. You're right !! yes it is rite the date meanes it is best if used buy but not bad on the date unlike milk or bread the soda is going to out last the date rember the words best if drank by its how they get you
