Milk - how much of it do you need to buy ?!

Question:

Milk - how much of it do you need to buy ?

This household seems to get through gallons of standard cows' milk. I am forever stocking up.
It goes on cereals, into cooking, in tea & coffee, milk shakes and dear knows what.
Oh I dont't mind too much, but it carrying bottles of the fine stuff from the local supermarket every day. We have no milkman anymore,
I have suggested either installing a bulk tank, or buying a cow.
This met with disapproval.
I am now going around said supermarket to buy myself a few beers, but what is on the shopping list ?
Milk.

What do you reckon ?

Bob

Answers: I just found out that milk is the least expensive at drug stores like CVS or Walgreens. A gallon of milk is $5.99 at Target, which is the most expensive I've ever seen it, and $3-something at Walgreens. Just a tip for a fellow milk buyer. It is good for you Bob and it will not harm the kids either. about 4 pints a week Beershakes, beer on cereal, beer in tea and coffee - it all works !!! Make sure you get skimmed beer though. 2-3 litres a week. Two in the house. We get through about 12-14 pints a week. Mostly for cereal and tea, and my little boy likes a big glass of milk in the morning with his breakfast. I agree with you it's a pain to carry, but at least it's good for you. I have SIX kids....they drink a gallon a day.

If I don't buy two gallons this morning, I'll be heading back to the store tomorrow, for........MILK!!!

I've often thought that installing a machine would be delightful, or perhaps purchasing a cow or two, although that could get quite messy.

I do get tired of lugging it....and of hearing, "MOM! We're out of MILK!" But, I guess it beats other things they could be drinking. we have 3 kids and buy 24 pints a week I know what you mean, we use about 5-6 litres a day. Luckily we still have a milkman - or rather she is a milk woman. She delivers 12 litres Tuesdaay and Thursday, we go get it at the corner store on weekends. My fridge isn't big enough to store enough milk to go from Thursday to Tuesday. We go through about 4 pints every 2-3days if not more. It's so expense as well at the moment. With something as good & wholesome as milk ,i don't think one need worry too much. The kids are on to something good ,so thank your lucky stars .I do symathise with the burden you have to carry ,but as i said remember it is a wholesome & healthy burden. The cow would solve one problem but believe me it's equally hard on the arms. Definitely get the cow. Not only do you get milk. But if you get a Jersey you will have plenty of cream to make butter and cheese. And the cow is a great lawn mower and garden fertilizer. Have the kids milk her every morning right into their cereal bowls. Enjoy.

BTW, I buy approx 3-4 gals a week with a combination of milk and choc. I don't drink milk at all but I live with my wee wrinklie parents and they get through around 14 litres per week. It is a right pain to humph it back from the supermarket. It takes my husband and me over 2 weeks to drink 1/2 a gallon, and we usually end up throwing the rest away. Neither is a big milk drinker, so we only use it if we're cooking with it. you're lucky that your kids and your wife drink it- it's cheaper than soymilk and calcium tablets. LOL i have totally said the same thing for years would be easier to buy a cow and stick it in the garden, thats kids for you i went on to the milk man once thought it was a good idea then they sold it to me in single pints, my fridge was full no room for much else lol, so i went back to 4 and six pint cartons much easier and yeah at least its good for you. mmoooooooooooooooooooooooooooo... x mm milk milk is good u shoul have 2 gallons of mil in your fridge every day when 1 finish start drinking from the 2nd 1 then when u got out bye another 1 and so on.... Yeh we need loads with my family in d house!!prob bout 8litres a week! :)
