Answers: Coffee, like anything else (i.e. alcohol), has a different effect upon different people. Some people argue that drinking coffee at night keeps them awake. However, for those of us that drink coffee daily, drinking coffee at night doesn't really have an affect on our ability to sleep. I guess it really depends on what type of coffee you drink, and how you fix it. For example, is it diluted coffee like you find at gas stations, do you load it with sugar, etc. Furthermore, I don't necessarily think that it's the coffee that keeps a person awake, but yet more of the amount of caffeine that he or she intakes.

Nice question! Source(s):
Former Starbucks Partner
Coffee Lover Does for me. The caffeine keeps me up and makes me jittery. only w/ caffeine Does not keep me awake, i even get up in the middle of the night for a cup of coffee. Love my coffee:)) its suppose to but i drink it too and it just makes me want to go to the toilet at night about 20x so thats the only reason im up because of it i drink it in bed makes no difference to me I'm with you on this one, It doesn't make me feel anymoer awake and i sometimes drink it befoer going to bed. I think i may actually help me sleep better! I find that I keep kind of jumping back awake if I've had coffee after about 6.30, but I do drink the strong freshly ground stuff, maybe instant's not as bad. After coffee I can go to bed, it is no problem... But once i actually made myself a cappuccino and had few cups at evening... Couldn't get to sleep till 5 in the morning! So.. it depends what kind of coffee you drink does for me! just a few sips makes me all hyper and everything!! its great :D Some people yes, some no. Only way it keeps me awake is from constantly going to bathroom. yes . hi it keeps me awake i only drink coffee in mornin ,,,malted milk for me wen i go to bed ,mmmmmmmmmmmmmm lubbly sleep i have .mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm doesn't affect me at all. I drink it while I'm reading in bed getting ready to go to sleep. I normally drink tea, but I had a coffee the other night about an hour before bed, and I couldn't sleep. Everytime I dropped off, I'd find myself awake again. Really annoying. If I am tired, nothing keeps me awake. Caffeine keeps you awake, but the hotness may make you feel all cozy and drowsy. I think it depends on the person. A friend of mine was once trying to explain how the caffeine releases something in your brain that makes you stay awake, but too much can actually have the opposite effect and make you sleepy--go figure! Coffee is like a religious experience for some, no joke.

Anyway, the more caffeine you drink the higher your tolerance will be. I used to drink coffee all day, even late in the evening, and slept fine. Now that I've cut out almost all caffeine I get a major jolt and would never be able to sleep like that. It all depends on the person but if I drink it in the evening then most likely it will keep me awake. I am a nite person so I will drink coffee whenever I am n the mood for it...... Caffeine is a stimulant, stimulants keep you awake.

In all likelihood you are drinking a blend of coffee that is low in caffeine. no but it gives me headaches, so i make sure i drink plenty at night if you know what i mean If it dosen't matter to you why would I waste my time trying to answer it for you A-- -----?!!! 1% best answers now i know why your question is so special!! A dude i used to work with couldnt have it after 4 in the arvo or he couldnt sleep. Doesnt affect me but. I just had one, now im going to bed.
