I want to learn about Coffee?!

Question:

I want to learn about Coffee?

I was wondering if there was some free information on the net about all the different sort of coffee's you can make and how to make them. or all the different types of coffee. I would be very thankful if somone could show me to a sight where i can read up on this, or if not a name of a book that i could read.

Im going to do a Barista coffee making course soon and would just like to have a bit of coffee knowledge befor i start.

Answers: Congrats on the Barista training, I assume that means your starting a new job soon.

Their are 2 different types of coffee beans, Arabicia and Robusta. The Arabicia are the top beans. The robusta is a new variety that has come on to the market in the last few years. It is how they are able to sell coffee at $3.99 a pound. You see coffee is very difficult to grow. It wants a certain amount of sun, water and needs to be at just the right height in the atmosphere (ie on the side of a mountain). The robusta bean is a much hardier bean. It can leave at a lower elevation, is a bit more drought resistant and it grows more easily. It can have up to 2 times as much caffeine and taste twice as bad as Arabica beans.

I know a ton more, but have to get to work. Source(s):
Coffee snob, and former manager of 2 coffee shops (not Starbucks, I hate their coffee). Are you interested in different bean types, or brewing methods? You can refer to the following websites for information on types of coffee and brewing method:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/coffee...
http://homecooking.about.com/od/beverage...
http://www.ineedcoffee.com/03/brewing/... I roast my own coffee. I buy my 'green' beans from a place called SweetMarias. They have a web page which is (what else?)

http://sweetmarias.com

They have a variety of coffees from all over the world with reviews of each. They have instructions on how to roast, grind and brew coffee. They have just about every roaster, grinder, coffee maker, and miscellaneous knick-knack you could imagine, with reviews and instructions and everything. Their website is like a college-level course on coffee.

If you want to learn about espresso drinks, well that's different. I'm not so interested in that but I'm sure there's a lot of stuff on the web. I would start with the big names in espresso--Gaggia, La Pavoni, Capresso, etc. and learn about the espresso itself. Ten minutes on Google will give you more info than you can handle.
