Water tastes salty?!

Question: Have been trying to drink more water as the weather's been heating up in Australia, and the tap water tastes salty and dirty and has a slight rotten taste, so cannot stand to drink it even though it used to taste fine.
So I bought some spring water(no added salt or minerals) from the supermarket and that tastes salty as well(but not rotten or like there's dirt in it)and I'm barely able to stomach drinking it either.
What could be going on?

1. Are you experiencing sinusitis? This is a common cause of non-salty things tasting salty.

2. Have you been dehydrated, e.g. from drinking lots of caffeinated beverages or from a medication with diuretic effects?

If the answer to both of these is negative, then consult a physician immediately. This can be a symptom of a variety of neurological issues, ranging from mild to serious.

Take care.

EDIT

I am SO relieved to hear that!

In rare cases the symptom you describe can indicate a brain tumor, but if it's sinuses and dehydration, you know how to deal with those I'm sure. Best wishes and big hugs!
I'm glad to hear it's easing up now. And no reason to feel foolish. Besides, it's good to listen to what your body is telling you. If this had been a brain tumor, you'd have caught it in the very early stages by noticing that symptom and thus greatly increased your chances of a full recovery. Report It
