I know this sounds ridiculous, but why do I feel addicted to Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts?!

Question: For example, I'm sitting here at work (on yahoo haha) and I'm exhausted. Instantly the thought of coffee from either place perks me up. But not the thought of caffeine in general. Not any type of coffee. Just from Sbucks or DD.

It actually puts me in a good mood to drink one. That is scary.
There are days I'm not in a good mood UNTIL I have one.

That sounds like chemical dependency if you ask me.

AGAIN, IT IS NOT CAFFEINE in general. Only coffee from Sbucks and DD.

*Ideas? Thoughts?*

Gotta run to Starbucks....

It probably is the caffeine. When you get addicted, you don't consciously crave the general substance, you crave your favorite delivery method which you associate with the "feel good" experience of getting that substance.

Smokers crave cigarretts, not chewing tobacco, cigars, or nicotine patches. Drinkers crave their favorite beverage of choice (or maybe a few of them). They don't crave drinks that they haven't developed a "relationship" with.

I'm not saying this to make you feel bad. Loving coffee is not anything to worry about. Craving it does not mean you have a problematic addiction.

I don't know but I want Starbuck's now!! I love their chai latte and chai frappacino!!!! They always put me in a good mood too!!!

I could use one now...but the closest one is 20 minutes away...how sad!!!

I know exactly how you feel! I am the same way with the Starbucks White Chocolate Mocha! I ? IT!

You probably just crave the taste of it, if thats what your used to nothing else will taste good.

All humans are predisposed to want sugar. Back when humans were hunting and gathering, sweet was a way to know things were safe to eat. Bitter told us to stay away. Even people who say they have a "salt tooth"- it really is a sweet tooth in disguise. They crave things like potato chips, pretzels and crackers. These foods cause the same reaction as sugar in the body because they are refine carbohydrates.

When you eat allot of sugar your body over produces the hormone; insulin. The insulin reacts with the sugar causing blood sugar to drop. When your blood sugar drops, you crave more sugar. This is the cycle of sugar addiction.

High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS), found in many processed foods, has replaced regular sugar in many products. It is six times sweeter than sugar. It does not act the same way as regular sugar in the body. HFCS does not stimulate insulin production, it is processed more like fat in the body. Some experts believe that it actually converts to fat faster and easier than regular sugar. It also could contribute to sugar cravings because if its super sweet flavor.

Alcohol consumption can contribute to sugar cravings. Many former alcoholics have intense sugar cravings because sugar acts very similar to alcohol in the body.

White flour, white potatoes, and white rice all convert to sugar in the body. These will all cause the high rise of insulin and the drop in blood sugar that leads to craving.

Sugar is like drug. It affects you.

Shut up and give me a cigarette.
