Connection between cola and migraines?!
Answers: i usually drink diet coke but i ran out the other night and all was left was regular coke. the next day i had the worst migraine i ever had. could there be some connection?
Different answer than all above. I would bet that you drink ALOT of soda. Your body is used to the aspertame in diet coke. regular coke, doesn't have it - has full sugar. I would guess you were starting to go thru withdrawal. The caffeine content between coke/diet coke are pretty much the same.
Otherwise, you could be having a reaction to one of the other chemicals the coke had in it. I get horrible migraines with any artificial sweetener. I also get them with gatorade. It's possible you were reacting to one of the preservatives.
Really? Sometimes I have cracked a can of Coke because I was starting to get a headache and it usually helps relieve the onset pain. There is caffeine in Excedrin for Migraines, etc. BUT, everyone is different, you might have a trigger from caffeine.
Caffeine dude, it's kind of like when you start a new diet and you cut all the carbs out...you tend to get a migraine later that day because your body is craving it!
I have a friends whose triggers are chocolate, cheese and caffeine. However, if the diet cola you normally drink is caffeinated, then the regular cola should not have caused a problem. Your other poster pointed out that caffeine can relieve a headache. If you normally drink a lot of cola, and then ran out and went without your caffeine hit, it could have triggered the headache, and the regular coke was too little too late.
If migraines disrupt your life, start keeping a journal of food and activities associated with the migraines. Take the journal to a doctor. Most urban centers have doctors who specialize in diagnosing and treating headaches and migraines. The journal will help you be accurate with descriptions of your symptoms. Even if you can't find a specialist, it will help a regular doctor.
I doubt it. If you have migraines they tell you to have caffeine to open up the blood vessels. It was explained to me that a migraine is your blood vessels opening and closing repeatedly, so drink something high in caffeine, and it will open them up. They also told me not to drink caffeine on a regular basis, so when you need it , it will work better. Diet coke has caffeine in it unless you drink the free one.
