Peaberry is a type of coffee bean. Not a varietal as a cuturra, a bourbon or longberry. It can be any country's coffee or variety. Peaberry is a shape really. Coffee beans come from the coffee cherry, usually two to a cherry, laying against each other flat side to flat side. A peaberry is a single bean within the cherry and has a rounded shape, no flat side.
Some crops are picked and processed and the peaberries are left with the rest of the beans, but some processors will sort them out and sell them as a 'specialty' item. Most don't bring a greater price, but some roasters believe they have a better or different flavor than the flat beans.
Buy the weigh the company I purchase from presently carries over 70 different varieties of green coffee beans and at least 9 of them are peaberry (just did a quick count).
