When i drink soda i get heartburn, ne ideas on how to prevent it or why its happening?!

Question: The main culprit is the sugar in the soft drinks. Sugar turns to acid as is breaks down in your stomach. Bad huh. Worse is that when you ingest foods and drinks the stomach secretes acid to break down the substance for digestion. So you have acid ingested and acid secreted. Wanta guess why you have heartburn now?
Prevention would be go sugarless, or get your Dr. to prescribe an acid blocker (may have my problem, excessive acid secretion) or you could try some of the over the counter acid reducers.
By the way, I would stay away from antacids, mos tare made of Calcium...Calcium is what bones are made of. The stomach detects calcium and secretes MORE acid to dissolve the calcium.

Patient: "Doctor, it hurts when I do this." Doctor: "Don't do that!"

I'm not really sure why. It could be the sugar. Sometimes sugar gives me heartburn. But bottom line, lay off of the sodas for a while, Jay. See if that makes it clear up. Good luck.

Let a soda sit for several minutes once it is poured .. and see if that helps..

I think it could be the carbonation in the soda..

The bubbles in soda are made of carbon dioxide dissolved into the water in the drink. Among other things, this can lead to the formation of carbonic acid, albeit in VERY small amounts. Also, citric acid can be used as a flavoring, and more infrequently as a preservative. Citrus flavored sodas will naturally have more citric acid in them. To illustrate, drop an old tarnished penny into a small amount of coke. In a relatively short time the penny will be shiny and new. Its been said that if you drop a 10d nail into a bottle of coke it will completely dissolve overnight. Seems doubtful as coke is sold in aluminum cans, huh? But the penny thing is true. You can actually see it working! Cheers!

could be an underlying problem of possibly acid reflux or even faulty gall bladder. best idea lay off the soda

Carbonated drinks can have that effect on people. So either quit drinking soda, or stock up on Pepcid AC, Tums, and Zantac! ;]
