Is there a drink, apart from alcohol that will help me to sleep?!

Question: WHOA !!! Alcohol is the WORST thing to drink to sleep. Yes, it puts you to sleep, but as it metabolizes, it converts and wakes you back up.

You won't see me on here talking positive about many drugs, but Rozerem (Ramelteon) works rather well and has little or no side effects, not habit forming and clears well in the morning.

If you are just looking for a nice bedtime drink, try out several different teas, making sure of course, they are caffeine free. Sleepy-Time teas work well, and looking at the source of any sleep disorder is always good.

If you haven't already done so - I would run this by your doctor too, as there could be an underlying medical reason.

Drinking alcohol to help sleep is a very bad mix - I have seen it simply destroy people - you become addicted to the alcohol - and get used to it - you need to drink more & more and it more disrupts your sleep and then creeps in and damages your liver, brain, stomach, etc.

Good luck ...

there are teas...

Actually yes... and believe it or not it's warm milk. If that sounds gross you could try hot chocolate (made with milk). The reason that Milk is the answer is because when milk is heated it releases Tryptophan which induces sleep.

Quote from a website:

According to age-old wisdom, milk is chock full of tryptophan, the sleep-inducing amino acid that is also well known for its presence in another food thought to have sedative effects, turkey.

And the reason you warm it is to release Tryptophan which comes about when Milk is heated. Eating carbs like breads, donuts, or such will help absorb Tryptophan.

P.S. One of the best ways to fall asleep is to meditate, and deep breathing.

Horlicks is supposed to work!

Hot chocolate or a hot milky drink, add your own flavourings. Honey and lemon is nice or try some maple syrup.

I like warm milk with a little sugar and butter. It helps me to sleep.

Warm glass of milk

If I haven't gone to sleep after an hour or so of lying in bed I take 50mg of Diphenhydramine (Benadryl) and that usually does it for me.

Hot chocolate, ovaltine, Horlicks, hot milk in fact any milky drink

Try "Norfolk Punch" from health shops.

You WILL be surprised.

warm milk

hot chocolate or cocoa

Some people say something like horlicks or ovaltine, malted drinks, might help you sleep.

Warm milk might help, give it a try

I find Camomile tea is very relaxing, and you don't need to clean your teeth after drinking it. I used to drink it if I couldn't get to sleep and got bored and it generally worked.
