How do you make a good rootbeer float?!


Question: there is no real secret to a float.. just a good ice cream and soda.. for a rootbeer float i use barqs rootbeer and breyers classic vanilla ice cream try that gurl.. and of course make sure u gota big beer mug ice cold from the freezer and they can stay in the freezer all the time its safe.. ejnjoy and good luck

Mabye some home made icecream and some really good rootbeer... There really isnt any secrets to rootbeer floats.

Ice cold mug
Good vanilla ice cream
Scoop ice cream into cold mug
Good quality root beer
SLOWLY pour root beer into mug over ice cream.
Take spoon and straw and enjoy!

I think that the best ones I have ever had were made with Bryers Vanilla Ice Cream with A&W rootbeer.

Good stuff there.

Put the unopened can in water

tall glass
pour rootbeer
add vanilla ice cream
insert straw
suck and perhaps use spoon, if you wish

In England it's coke floats which are pretty popular. This website shows how to do the nicest one i've made yet - and i'm sure it applies to rootbeer as well. It's an actual, free, online video tutorial - which is SO much better than written instructions.

Okay, first you'll need a frosty mug or glass so throw one in the freezer thirty minutes or more before you make your float(s). When you're ready to make the float(s) you'll want to fill each glass about 1/2 full with your favorite root beer, then gently drop in one or two scoops of vanilla ice cream (don't bother trying any other flavors - they don't work). Finally, top off the root beer but remember to poor slowly because it's going to foam alot. Believe me, I spent almost 15 years working at a Baskin-Robbins and had a whole bunch of floats foam over, gentle handling is the key here. Now serve with a straw and one of those long ice tea spoons.
Another variation you can try is to make the float in a blender, toss in an extra scoop of ice cream and whip up what's known as a freeze. Mmmmmmm good.

Easy !
Get a tall glass and a teaspoon (long handle)

Pour in a good brand (Dad's Old Fashioned,A&W )
Root Beer (Sassafras Derived)
until the glass is half full --
Add some small Ice Cubes (you want the float to be
colder than "cool")
Add One large or two small Scoops of Vanilla Ice
Cream (Any decent brand will do--you don't have
to use Gourmet Ice Cream ! )

The Root Beer will begin to Fizz and rise to the top--
add more Root Beer (not too much)

Use the spoon to stir slightly ---then alternate between
1/2 spoon of Ice Cream and sips of Root Beer

You have tasted what is served at the Pearly Gates
of Heaven !

Now you can become an afficianado by using
Chocolate Ice Cream the next day ---using the same technique!
The proper name for this is ---"A Black Cow "

There are no others---these are the only
two official Root Beer Floats recognized in the
Root Beer Float Organization---( I am a

Beware of Imitations !

A really good vanilla ice cream, otherwise you get ice crystals if you try to use lowfat or such. I do low carb, so when I want one I fill a glass with ice, add diet rootbeer and top with heavy cream, stir and enjoy.....

I use vanilla ice cream and root beer, if I want it to be really good, I will put lots and lots of ice cream in it.

you put ice cream in a mug then shake up a root beer slightly so its fizzy then poor it on slowly so the fizz freezes and stays on the top.

Good vanilla ice cream, and pour the rootbeer, a good brand, over the ice cream slowly. It foams up so it takes awhile, but it's worth the wait! Many people put ice cream into the soda, it's okay but I like to pour the soda over the ice cream for the foam effect, it tastes different!
