Will dinking green tea really reduce fats? And why it does?!
Green tea is very safe, however if you are sensitive to caffeine you may want to be careful with it.
Standardized extracts are available too.
According to http://www.supplementwatch.com/suplib/su... "Recent data provides strong evidence that green tea may be effective in stimulating thermogenesis, increasing caloric expenditure, promoting fat oxidation and controlling body weight."
According to
http://www.drhoffman.com/page.cfm/118, " Studies suggest that EGCG may boost metabolism and help burn fat. In a French study, resting metabolic rate increased by 4% after 90mg of EGCG was consumed three times per day.
Scientists at the University of Chicago's Tang Center for Herbal Medicine Research have found that EGCG caused rats to lose up to 21 percent of their body weight. Rats injected with EGCG derived from green tea leaves lost their appetites and consumed up to 60 percent less food after seven days of daily injections. EGCG seems to desensitize leptin receptors (leptin may play a role in appetite) in the study animals (Endocrinology, March 2003). Researchers suspect that EGCG may work through other hormonal systems that control appetite and body weight that we don't know about yet."
Answers: Green tea contains EGCG among other compounds. EGCG has been shown, according to some sources to increase metabolism. It's a powerful antioxidant which will protect your cells from free radical damage.
