I can only assume that either the person was able to convince themselves that they were achieving an alcohol induced high, or that they were pretending. I am not familiar with what excessive sugar ingestion might cause to someone that has not built up a resistance to sugar.
Can't say that I have. I've never heard of getting drunk off cider before. I did meet a person who was allergic to hot cider once he broke out in hives if he drank it. The funny thing is that he was able to drink it cold without a problem. So I guess anything's possible.
