Does Dr. Pepper actually have a laxative effect on some people?!

Question: My mom doesn't like Dr. Pepper, because it reminds her of the Black Draught Laxative that her mother used to give to her and her siblings when she was a kid. Interestingly enough, I could sometimes swear that Dr. Pepper has a slight laxative effect on me when I drink it. Is it just my imagination or has this happened to other people, as well?

i am 32 and have been drinking the doctor for about 25 years and have not had that experience with it. It does have diuretic effect this means it draws water out and can cause you to become more thirsty and need to pee a lot.

P.S. FOR EVER ONE OUT THERE. THERE IS NO PRUNES IN DOCTOR PEPPER THERE NEVER HAS BEEN.

Dunno?

But coffee does it to me.

i heard that one of the ingredients was prune juice

That sort of makes sense, in a roundabout way. One of Dr. Pepper's main flavoring components is (I'm told) prunes, of all things. On the one hand, that would explain the possibility of a laxative effect; prunes (and prune juice) have been used for that purpose for hundreds of years.

However, it's likely that the Dr. Pepper manufacturers don't use any actual prunes/prune juice at all, any more. It's probably flavored artificially---although I don't know that for sure.

One thing I do know: I've never personally experienced that kind of effect from Dr. Pepper. In all fairness, though, I'm not a big fan of it and I don't drink it often.

I never heard of such a thing, but every time my friend eats at McDonalds, he gets the shits.

It does not happen to me but I know of my friends having the same effect. I am not a big fan od Dr. Pepper becuase of the taste coinsidenly it the bad taste was after they started advertising it has 23 flavors in it!

No it doesn't have prune juice. Hence no laxative effect. And the proprietary formula is secret.

i dont think so but im not really a dr.pepper person.Different things have different affects on different people

Tell your mom I remember the Black Draught,Fletcher's Castoria, and Father John's" too!. I hated all of that crap! (lol).
Anyway--------- I like Dr. Pepper (and any rootbeer type of soda),but it's that Mountain Dew,that makes my stomach fell like a volcano is about it erupt!

yes why not.
