Has anyone here tried Moxie soda?!

Question: It's a soda that predates Coke and Pepsi and I've heard that it's really popular in New England. I finally got the opportunity to try it recently when I spotted it at a Fresh Market in Arkansas. I normally like just about any kind of carbonated beverage, but Moxie is definitely the exception! I found that it has a bitter, medicinal aftertaste. What do you guys think?

Im from Maine, and it tastes like ***, don't try it!

never tried it

Yeah I'm from New England and I didn't know it was regional--I thought it tastes pretty lousy. YACK

haha. i actually like it. but i do agree it's an odd taste. a couple of my friends were obsessed with it and would make people try it to see their faces when they realized it's the most bitter soda ever.

I'm from New Hampshire-- I loved Moxie when I was little. Not so much anymore, but it is one of my parents/grandparents favorite drinks.

My mother claims there is nothing better than Moxie with milk.

i tried it as 7th grader in new york in sci class taste was nasty i live in vermont have never seen it lhere like u i love most soda

I am a former chef and had it a number of times when in Boston, up here in Canada we have a similar pop(soda) called Brio, it is an Italian herbal drink, very much like Moxie, it is like certain beers and other unique foods either you love it or cannot stand it.

I happen to like it, and there are a number of Italian beverages like it under the name "Chinotto", found in Italian or Hispanic deli's or grocertieria's.

never tried it

yeaa, it tastes like root beer
the only place ive found it in the US
is up in New Hampshire

Moxie is my favorite soda. It's made with gentian root and is good for digestion. It tastes like angostura bitters, they also contain gentian.

It is an acquired taste. It's not really like root beer at all.

I love angostura bitters in ginger ale, it's a really good stomach tonic.

I live in CT by the way and it is available here. Some time I want to get up to Lisbon Falls, Maine to go to Moxie Fest.

It's an aquired taste. We can get it just about everywhere here in NH. It has a slightly different taste depending on where in the country it was bottled and if it was in a can or a bottle. It tastes best out of a plastic (or glass if you can find it) bottle. It develops a "tinny" taste in a can.

Moxie is now owned by Coca-Cola, so I expect quality to decline.

It is great in milk and very good for digestion.
