I know this is extremely gross but does anyone know if I should be worried?!
Answers: that I just discovered what appeared to be a maggot in the hot chocolate I had already drank about 1/3 of? It was from a powdered mix that you buy in packets.
No, you should NOT be worried!
As disgusting as it seems humans have been eating bugs for hundreds of thousands of years. Rotten food and bacteria too! As a matter of fact, in some 'civilized' parts of the world bugs and insects are grown for 'our pleasure', as odd as it seems.
We are living in the 'real' world where you can still find a bug in a salad even in expensive and fancy restaurants!
Don't worry.
.
No, it will not harm you. Relax.
Ew!
Send the packet back to the manufacturer (the address will be on the box) with a letter of complaint, saying where and when you bought it. Put the maggot remains in the freezer in case of their being awkward about it.
If you do get ill in the morning or tomorrow, then let the appropriate people know. In the UK, this would be environmental health, but I don't know who it is elsewhere.
The chances are you'll be fine, but it's still a very nasty shock.
No, I know it's disgusting, though. We get weavels in our pantry which can come in the form of little moths or maggot looking things... they like food and the only way to get rid of them is to throw EVERYTHING out. We have done that several times and they are still here... Hopefully that is not what you have. But eating it won't hurt you at all.
You should be ok
i dunno i dont think u shud unless it maybe laid eggs? but dont worry maybe u shud talk to a doctor..
nope ...nothing to worry about .... just try to stay alive
they recently did a survey on the radio about all the rat droppings, worms, and insect parts the average person injests per year without even knowing it. It,s staggering and yes, you definitely have eaten it. On the bright side most insects are high in protien and are actually good to eat provided they have been cleaned, but the rat poop? No thanks. Most of those findings were in instant chocolate powders. Native Americans say to eat healthy, throw out every thing in cans , cartons, and containers. And make your own food. Also a lot of insect goodies were found in pasta like macaroni and spaghetti, dried in the boxes they are sold in. But be worried? no. it isn,t the first time.
Ugggh I'm not sooo hungry anymoree.
Remember this question to give to anyone on a diet.... the answer about all those gross things found in foods everyday took away my appetite for sure. I'm tempted to make everything myself now... grow my own garden.... ect, to avoid all that. lol
But yeah though you're perfectly fine, I wouldn't be surprised if you don't ever want to drink hot chocolate ever again :\

All about commonly found food insects.
I know there's, on average, 8 insect legs per chocolate bar and bugs are commonly found in flour, but I think I've read more then I needed to know... lol
You'll be fine, I once started eating one of those huge chocolate bars my mom had stashed away forever and when I turned it over it was covered with all kinds of creeepy little crawlies. I couldn't eat crunch bars for quite a while after that but I survived just fine. My hubby works in a grocery store and you really don't want to know about all the stories they tell. If ya don't know, chances are you'll be totally fine after the initial mental disgust.
Thanks for sharing.
if it was from the powdered packets, i wouldn't be worried. It's totally dry and should not pose a threat to your health. No bacteria can grow in a totally dry environment. They need moisture to proliferate, so don't be worried.
I think if you mind dirty things being in your chocolate milk (milk and malt), than just don't drink it. I have drank a lot of chocolate milk and there is always a hair or a suspicous thing in it. I believe they use low quality milk because you can't tell what color or what is in it due to the color of chocolate.
Highly doubtful it was a maggot, since they're only attracted to decaying things.
However, aside from the 'gross-out' factor they're shouldn't be anything to worry about.
