Question about whole bean coffee?!
Answers: Is it best to refrigerate the unused portion of my whole bean coffee or does it not matter?
NEVER EVER freeze or refrigerate your unused coffee beans. It only dries out the oils and makes bad coffee with them. To keep them fresh you only need to keep them in an air tight container.
Refrigerate it to be on the safe side.
If you want to keep it for a while, freeze it. If you're going to use it the next day or something you can just leave it out.
I keepmine in the freezer and yes it makes a difference in the taste. It seems to taste fresher and the flavoris rich.
If you are using it daily, storing whole bean coffee in an air tight container in a dark, cool location works best. If the beans will not be used for a week or more, storing them in a double seal storage bag in the freezer works best. I travel frequently and have used both methods for years.
Yes, you should absolutely refrigerate unused, unground coffee. A sealed, airtight container is recommended, to keep the coffee from picking up other odors, AND to prevent the coffee from passing it's aroma to other foods.
However, you should NOT freeze it, unless you intend to leave it stored for a very long time. Even though coffee beans are "dry", there is a small amount of moisture still contained within them. Freezing will cause the small amount of water to expand (that's what water does when it freezes), which can disrupt the cellular structure of the coffee beans, and cause an "off" flavor. Also, when they thaw, the beans will collect moisture from the air.
Yes, store whole coffee beans in either the refrigerator or freezer. They will stay fresher longer.
considering the winter season --it is not required to refrigerate the unused portion.
I would put it in the freezer.
