Why has cow's milk become so expensive at the stores?!

Question: Ok. I am a Food Science, Nutrition, and Health Promotion major and we actually JUST talked about this in class while we were talking about cow milk. While gas prices do have something to do with the moving and distribution of it, the main reason is that there is a higher demand for ethanol fuel. Ethanol fuel comes from corn. One of the staple foods for milking cows (cows used for milk) is corn. Because corn is in such high demand, it is costing more to feed the cows. Therefore, the milk is more expensive! Personally, I can't tolerate soy milk. I know it is good for you and all (trust me, I know), but I just can't do it! But if price is an issue, go soy!

the higher demand in ethanol fuels (from corn) create a higher demand in corn feed for cows. at least that's what I think.

theres always goat milk, camel milk, llama milk, rice milk, and soy milk...

they can always find a reason, can't they?

Cows are on strike

Distribution and packaging are both directly impacted by the price of oil. And the cows want a raise and better retirement benefits.

Because the evil oil fiends want to charge millions of dollars a barrel. And even though it takes a while to turn oil into gas, the prices at the pumps are skyrocketing. You have to pay for the transporting of the milk.

So you can switch to the soy milk if you want to, which has not TRULY been proved healthier for you. You will have to pay more for it too. It has to be transported too. However, you will have to pay EXTRA for it because it is designer milk and you won't be getting nearly as much for your dollar. Your wallet will just get sicker and sicker and sicker...

The cost of fuel has gone up, so it costs more to transport the feed and then transport the finished product. This in turn costs the farmer more money, so to make up for it, he has to also charge more. It all trickles down to the consumer.

Do the cows (and your body) a favor and switch to soy milk!
