Will someone please explain how to brew tea. I am a crass American who never gets it right. Yuk?!

Question: Use a china tea pot,( best if it a six cupper)
Heat it with boiling water.
BEFORE the tea goes in.
Allow one level tea spoon per cup plus one for the pot.
Use freshly boiled water, still boiling pour over leaves in pot.
Leave to stand for a minimum of 3 minutes to brew.
When ready pour through tea strainer into china tea cups and THEN add milk and sugar.
Happy slurping.

If you like it stronger use heaped tea spoons.

you haven't learned how to tea bag yet? you should start!!!! it's fun!

Yes, I have also found tea bags to be much simpler. The other way involves a strainer......who has time for that?

TWOBOB knows his stuff.

EXCEPT for the milk and sugar. Yuk!!!

Although I absolutely agree with Bob, there is a simpler way if you use a 'tea ball'. That way you can put the tea in it and leave the straining part out. Or you can find STRONG English tea bags, bigger than American ones, add one or two to the china pot, pour boiling water over them, then put in china cups, and everyone can add sugar, lemon, and milk (but cream is much better) to taste. Add a few little sandwiches, cream cakes, and scones with jam and you have a perfect 'High Tea'. Oh so yummy. Can I come?

Fill a 4 quart Kettle of water, reach to boiling point. Take Kettle of Water off Burner. Add 6-8 tea bags, adjust according to strength of tea you prefer. Let steep a good hour or two. Remove tea bags. Add 1 1/2 - 2 cups of white granulated sugar. Stir with a spoon. Add your gallon of tea to a gallon size container and refrigerate, add ice, lemons, etc. If you want iced tea. If you want typical hot tea, do it by the coffee cup and add 1 teaspoon of sugar.

My guess is since you are asking this you also have trouble boiling water, TD. Best leave this for the real professionals to save yourself a trip to the ER. LOL
