Coca Cola ingredients?!

Question: I live in Ireland where most coke i drink is made within Ireland or Europe, but i got a can of American coke with some take out recently and i have to say i tasted a hell of a lot different. I checked the ingredients and in irish made coke they use most of the same ingredients (although some phrased differently) and the only difference was in the U.S high fructose corn syrup is used where as here we use normal sugar. Does anyone know why this is? I've heard some stuff about corn syrup and was under the impression it was worse for you than sugar (although i could be misinformed, corn syrup to my knowledge isn't used much in Europe)

According to an article in the Washington Post, there are several reasons food and drink manufacturers use high-fructose corn syrup. High-fructose corn syrup (HFCS):
1. tastes sweeter than refined sugar
2. is easier to blend into beverages
3. is cheaper than refined sugar

The Wikipedia entry for high-fructose corn syrup offers one explanation for the differences in Cokes in US & Europe. "HFCS, known as isoglucose, has been subject to production quotas under the sugar regime since 1977" ... which is "equivalent to about 2%-3% of sugar production" in the European Union.

This article from MSN Health & Fitness suggests that HFCS is a common ingredient in many US foods because it is cheap. Read more about how HFCS became an important sweetener in the US. http://health.msn.com/dietfitness/articl...

For information about HFCS from the Corn Refiners Association see this website: http://www.hfcsfacts.com/index.html

corn syrup is much worse for you than sugar. The body cant digest it. Thats one of the reasons why Americans are so over weight.
