Are mushrooms vegetables?!

Question: That would probably be the best classification for them.

They are fungi, and fungi were considered a form of plant. Later, biologists considered fungi to be a separate "kingdom" from plants.

The six kingdoms are: Plants, Animals, Protists, Fungi, Archaebacteria, and Eubacteria.

Culinary-wise; I guess they would be classified as vegetables because I don't think they would be considered fruit or grain.

No, they are in the fungi family.

No. They're fungi.

Duh, no, they're a mammal, found in moist dark corners of peoples back yards. They like to come out and hunt under the full moon. You know that funny little 'clicking' sound you sometimes hear and you think it may be a mouse? IT'S NOT!! IT'S A MUSHROOM MATING CALL!!!! Please respect their right to live peacefully with us, never sneak up on them or scare them, if you find a young mushroom that has wandered off from the den, please, just leave it alone, mama mushroom will soon be back.

Thank you, go little mushroom GO!!

It may just be a matter of semantics. A mushroom is a plant, a non-vascular plant, but a plant none-the-less. All vegetables are plants. Is the inverse true? Are all plants vegetables? If a vegetable is defined as some sort of plant matter that one would eat that doesn't fit into the fruit or grain categories, then perhaps it is. They certainly taste better combined with other vegetables than they do with fruits.

fungus

No, mushrooms are fungi.
:)

No, mushrooms are living things that hide in your bushes and when you go to bed, they make you snore by jumping into your nose. They love the sound of snoring, so they do it every night. And if you don't snore, then that means that you don't have any mushrooms in your bushes, eh?

(THESE ARE FACTS FOUND IN THE RIGHT SIDE OF MY BRAIN AND MAY NOT BE COPIED OR REPRODUCED INTO ANYONE ELSES ANSWER)

THANK YOU

No, mushrooms are fungi, which aren't even the same kingdom as plants.

In a sense they could be counted as vegetables but really no they are just a fungus that is similar to a plant because if you look at a chart about fungi it would be put into certain groups by characteristics mushrooms would be in the plant-like fungi family because they don't move to get their food but they drain their nutrients from the area around them.

No, fungi. Fungi are not vegetables.
