Why is my vegetarian diet causing Flatulence and Bloating?!

Question: I'm a lacto-ovo vegetarian.

Answers: I'm a lacto-ovo vegetarian.

Because the high fibre content of a mainly vegetable diet feeds the bacteria in your intestines. They produce gas when they digest the plant material.

Adding an enzyme like Beano to your diet might help with SOME of these foods, particularly legumes. Others... well, you'll just have to deal with the gas. If you haven't been vegetarian for very long, your intestines might still be able to settle down and get used to the new diet, so the gas could eventually stop...

lots of veggies cause gas.. dont know aobut bloating tho

Try some Beano. I also heard that adding fennel is a more organic approach. Ask the people in your local health food store to give you some help if fennel does not work. I think it only has to be taken with one meal a day.

I took a cooking class, and the chef/teacher told us that Mexicans add an herb called epazote when cooking beans. It is supposed to take away the flatulence effect!

Other foods or vegetables that may cause intestinal gas are broccoli, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, garlic, soy bean products such as tofu, or kim chee which is a Korean pickled cabbage product. also. Almost all beans might cause that effect and IF a person is eating cheese, they may be lactose intolerant.

If you're new to it, your body probably isn't used to suddenly getting the produce and fiber it needs. Give it some time. It'll subside as soon as your body adjusts to being fed well.

Your body is just not used to the amount of fiber you're currently getting. For most people, it just takes a period of adustment and then it goes away. But, you might try removing foods from your diet on a trial basis, one at a time, jsut to see if you can pinpoint what foods are causing this. Then, you can eat less of them and more of what doesn't bother you so much.

Well, if you're new to vegetarianism, then it's just part of the adjustment period. Your digestive system needs to get used to all this new fiber you're feeding it.

Also, alot of vegetarians rely heavily on beans and tofu for protein. Maybe eat less of that and eat more nuts and eggs instead....at least till you get used to this adjustment.

because you are a stinky farting mofo.
