All these forrums are here at yahoo so like minded people can ask questions is that not correct?!
Answers: How about the Vegan/vegetarian section? A committed vegan/vegetarian can post a question or view at how appalled they are about the killing of animals (like I did last week) and it was removed because it offended meat eaters. What are committed meat eaters in the vegan/vegetarian forum unless they just wish to argue? I have just seen the results of non vegans/vegetarians being outraged at a vegan parent question and I am bamboozled because the vegan/vegetarian forum is there for committed vegans and vegetarians and those who wish to be so why the outrage from meat eaters. If you are not vegan or vegetarian or the food choices of others offend you why come over to a vegan/vegetarian forrum? Why not stay in cooking? I am reading such hateful comments by meat eaters who if unhappy report the convictions of vegans/vegetarians and get their questions removed. Why? Whay can't a committed Vegan/Vegetarian ask a question is a like forrum like this one without being attacked by others ?
I didn’t see your deleted question as far as I know, but remember that it just takes one ‘trusted reporter’, or supersnitch’, to get any question removed – it wasn’t removed because it ‘offended meat eaters’. I know it can be infuriating to have a question removed for no good reason, but that's YA.
All the forums on YA are open for all to contribute to; some omnivores come to this forum to ask genuine questions or make serious points, some to poke fun and a handful to be offensive and obnoxious. I read a post from an omnivore recently who said she now ate less meat because of using the V&V forum. I wish the few who do so could refrain from personal insults, but in general a variety of viewpoints is healthy.
There are trolls and troublemakers on all forums, and on some it can be a lot more serious than on here; on the Cancer forum, for example, there are people who pretend they have cancer, people who make cancer jokes or talk about their favourite cigarettes, 15 year olds who pretend to have medical knowledge, people trying to sell ‘cures’ and people promoting restrictive diets, including vegan diets, as a way of preventing or curing cancer (http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;...
Trolling isn't exclusive to meat eaters on V&V. I don't know why some of them are so obsessed with other people's diets, but we're all different.
Not everyone realize that questions in a sub-category shows up in the entire main category. So the average food enthusiast sees things like vegan baby? and gets outraged(as they're conditioned to by the meat industries propoganda)
I like that people see questions they wouldn't seek out. It's an opportunity to expand our minds to different things.
lo_mcg - not sure what U meant, but about
"people promoting restrictive diets, including vegan diets, as a way of preventing or curing cancer"
Those people aren't trolls - they believe this is true and are trying to help people with alternatives. There are doctors who believe this too. The logic behind it is: If the body isn't dealing with burdensom food, then is free to use it's resources to fix what's wrong with it. There's been success too.
Hmmm. Did you not notice that this V&V catagory is under "Food & Drink" not religion or politics? So why would someone post their views on treatment of animals in a food and drink area if not to stir up controversy?
I agree with drum wizard, in the fact that not everyone pays attentions to the sub-category. Most of us are in the food section, and those are the questions we see. Many, I'm sure, aren't even in the food section when they read the questions. I agree with you that people should not be getting reported simply because someone disagrees with a lifestyle or diet - as long as there is nothing offensive in the question/answer, reporting it just because you don't agree with it isn't right. I have, personally, however, reported certain people for showing inappropriate pictures and videos on this site, and that includes a few vegans/vegetarians that have deemed it their duty to post links to graphic videos and photos. There are a lot of kids that come on this site, and this is not the place for those types of things. I have also seen many a vegan/vegetarian post nasty comments under questions not related to them - so that works both ways. This is the type of forum where, if you don't want to hear all kinds of views, then don't post the question. I am by no means applying this as a blanket statement to all vegans/vegetarians any more than I am applying it to all meat eaters...there is a lot of immaturity on this site, but there are also a lot of people who feel very passionately about certain topics. Try not to take it too personally.
You have raised a very good point, but I have seen vegan's attacking those of us who are omnivores.
Well, Yahoo isn't really that supportive of vegetarians/vegans. I don't understand why that question would be removed, but that's the way it is, I guess.
People are morons. I don't go into the Christian category (is there a christian category? whatever) and bash the christians. I can go into the Religion section and ignore the christian sections if I wanted. It's ridiculous.
Most of the anti-V&Vs aren't one-time posters responding to the a single question. They're constant trolls, either bashing V&Vs or pretending to be V&V and saying the most obnoxious **** to perpetuate myths about V&Vs. The saddest part is a lot, if not most, of the omnis here fall for it.
"Like minded" doesn't mean rigid or unthinking. You have real fanatics on the V&V forum. Many don't have any concept that their "truth" is not everyone's truth. In fact it's not even most of the veggie world's "truth". And so they get "upset". Personally, I care less what they say as they provide wonderful entertainment.
In my profession we have a lot of people from other cultures who are veg*n by birth and usually as part of their spiritual practice. They absolutely LAUGH until they are doubled over reading some of the nonsense written by most of these contributors. It's become "lunchtime entertainment" for many of us. Their absolute favorite is a pompous, moral fraud, and "Top Contributor" whom we are convinced needs to take more supplements. On the other hand we do feel that there is much disordered behavior among many of the V&V participants excluding the impressionable "teenies" that infest this place.
Yahoo Answers has, since the beginning, had a reputation for being slightly tyranical. I've been outraged on several occasions to no avail.
You should be able to ask anything you like as long it is in the appropriate forum, and is not overtly offensive. Meat eaters want to live in naive bliss with their medium rare steak and chicken wings, they don't want that nagging little thought creeping in that maybe, just maybe...what they're doing might...just might be wrong. You're not offending anyone, you're making them think...and that's the last thing they want.
I doubt we will ever know why they do this.
Theier lives must be really shallow and negative.
Fortunately, i must be from a different scial background because i've never met anyone so hateful at these people.
When Yahoo sent me a letter about this site asking me to contribute the words were somwhere along the lines of "share knowledge with similar professionals and experts as well as benefit from new information and thinking. Get real answers from real people"
It didn't mention abusive child-like trolls. In fact, i remember it saying the forum was different to others because they carefully monitor it.
Sorry, i fell of my chair laughing then.
Anyway, now i'm back I would also offer a glimmer of hope becasue yahoo are trialing a new reporting system and its liekly to hit the trolls hard. And several advertisers have withdrawn thier support becasue of the abuse so i suspect Yahoo are learning....but slowly.
Fake "trace" is a great example of the troll, they just spawn out the same stuff everytime. Waht would motivate someone to come into a forum they care-less about and personally insult people they don't know ? Its beyond my thinking - fortunately. If reading my answers is all you have to do at lunchtime, good for you, i'm glad to entertain you. But lets be honest, it doesn't affect me, does it ?
I'm happy with my contribution, i'm sure they are happy with thiers.
