Cancer/Food Change Ideas Needed?!

Question: I have switched over to whole foods, for the most part, but would really appreciate ideas on recipies to help me with eating better from now on, since I am being treated for two cancers - breast and thyroid.

I eat egg whites, chicken, turkey, veggies, Stonyhill Farm yogurt, and Almond Breeze-a milk alternative.

Yes, it does get boring to just eat chicken. However, to eat tofu or not to eat tofu is a struggle-not because of the tofu-but because I don't want to eat anything that would cause cancer later on in my process. One doctor has told me it's okay to eat tofu. Another has tole me the opposite because of the tumor development issure.

So, if there is a medical professional out there who can help with suggestions, I appreciate hearing from you.

Sorry, I would also like to hear from other cancer survivors and there struggles to eat better foods.

Thank you for any help.

Elizabeth

I'm sorry to hear you're being treated for two primary cancers, I hope your treatment is going well.

I have had breast cancer; I'm now in remission almost exactly four years after diagnosis. I had surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy and now take Arimidex.

As far as diet goes, of course it's always important to eat a healthy diet, and in your situation a healthy diet certainly helps you withstand the rigours of cancer treatment.

But there is no food proven to prevent cancer or to affect its treatment. When I was diagnosed, I had been a vegan for around eight years; I was a vegetarian for many years before that. Through support networks I've met two other vegans who've had breast cancer, one of them a lifelong vegan, and several vegetarians, and of course many omnivores.

I ate a pretty healthy diet, I juiced fresh fruit and vegetables most days, ate plenty of fruit and veg, exercised - all that good stuff. It didn't stop me getting grade 3 cancer, it didn't cure me and I'm not relying on it to prevent recurrences or metastases.

I'm still a vegan and I still eat a healthy diet, though perhaps a bit less healthy than before diagnosis - there's an bit of a feeling of 'what the heck'.

If there was ANYTHING in the way of diet that would guarantee me a cancer-free future, I would be doing it. But I have researched diets and alternative treatments quite extensively, and there really is no food proven to prevent or help cure cancer.

So my rather boring advice is: eat healthily because it'll make you feel better and help you deal with treatments, but don't deny yourself anything you enjoy.

I'm currently fit and well over three years after completing treatment. I wish you the very best, hope your treatment goes ok.

Everything I have read has said Soy,Fat, Sugar all "Feed" Cancers.

I personally would become a Vegan & do lots of Juice for extra nutrition.
This is the diet my daughter used when she had thyroid cancer. She is cancer free 3 years later.
