Can you give me a grocery list for a beginner vegan???!

Question: It's time for me to go cold turkey and become a vegan but i don't have a clue what to buy. i'm a mean cook but i don't know what to buy when it comes to everything vegan. I am starting from today on, i am doing this because i am taking buddhism seriously now and i know it's much more healthier for me to go vegan. Any tips and suggestion??? Thanks!!

My suggestion is to get a couple of good cookbooks for inspiration. Buy the ingredients for the recipes you want to try and, before you know it, you have a well-stocked vegan pantry. I have dried legumes in at least a half dozen varieties, several types of grains and flours, dozens of herbs and spices... but I didn't run out and buy them all at once. I basically plan a few meals I want to make over the course of the week and shop for them; the leftovers stock the pantry. Now I don't have to run out when I encounter a recipe that needs chickpea flour.

I recommend "Vegan with a Vengeance" VERY highly. I've tried about two dozen recipes from this one and they were all really good. The same author (Isa Chandra Moskowitz) has a new one called "Veganomicon" which is also really good. "How it All Vegan" by Tanya Barnard & Sarah Kramer is good, too.

check out some indian food site available on the web this would helpu because most of the indians are veg

here are a few links to vegan/veggie webites with lots of good stuff:

All supermarkets produce lists indicating which of their products are animal-free. Ask for a copy - you’ll be surprised at how much is on offer. Tesco do great own brand double choc chip cookies!

Good for you! You're making a wise decision!

Be sure and pick up some sort of B12 replacement. You won't be eating animal products anymore that have B12 from the bacteria-laced food the animals ate (and you wash your food too good for it to still have that bacteria on it). I like RedStar Nutritional Yeast to sprinkle in different dishes or on garlic toast - it gives a sort of cheesey, savory flavor. You can find it at most health food stores or online at any vegan grocery store (I like FoodFightGrocery.Com).

It's hard to give you a full list of things to pick up at the store because I'm not sure what you're tastes are. If you have a Trader Joe's near you you're really in luck!
They make a tasty veggie fried rice in the freezer section. Hummus is good and full of protein. You can't go wrong with fresh veggies and fruit. I love beans - they're very versatile.
There are so many stews and soups and sandwich and salad combos you can make that you'll never get bored.

Email me if you want some more tips! I love cooking so I'd love to help you out. Let me know if you have a Trader Joe's and I'll have a ton of suggestions for you!

Fruits Vechtebles Healthy meat low coresterol no sugar added nothing that says "ONLY 100 CALORIES" yea..right look on the ingrediants..Just buy HEALTHY!
